Climbers die in Scotland's Glencoe

Two mountaineers have died while climbing in Glencoe, a beauty spot in the Scottish Highlands.
Police were alerted to concerns for the safety of the climbers on the grade 2 peak Stob Coire nam Beith on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were joined in the search for the pair by HM Coastguard and Glencoe mountain rescue team. The two climbers were found dead.

Andy Nelson, leader of the mountain rescue team, told BBC Scotland: “The guys were roped together, so it is possible they were still on the climb but they have clearly fallen some distance. My information is that they have been killed instantly by the fall.
“They had all the relevant equipment and there is nothing to suggest that they were ill-equipped or inexperienced.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Sadly we can confirm that the two climbers were found deceased. Further details will be released when available.”
It is not yet known why the pair came into difficulty, but a weather warning this weekend cautioned climbers and hill walkers about the risk of avalanches in Scotland’s highest hills and mountains, following the weekend’s snowfall.
