The BMW K100RS was widely praised when it was released, though purists
were terrified of what a BMW without the boxer engine would be like.
The company apparently pulled it off, as the K series (affectionately
known as the Flying Brick) instantly won Bike of the Year. An excellent
sport-touring bike, there are plenty of examples that have over 100k
miles on the clock. BMW even lopped off one of the cylinders and
created a 750cc variant, which some people say is the one of the
smoothest engines ever put into a bike
.
Back to the 1000cc bike, though. The engine was actually based on an
existing Peugeot car engine, and it was one of the first bike to feature
fuel injection. The RS model has a slightly longer gear ratio than the
other models, as it was designed to be the ‘sport-tourer’ of the range.
This was a well spec’d bike, with twin-pot Brembos front and rear,
stainless steel exhaust, Nikasil liners, adjustable headlight, Hella
accessory leads, and even a whopping 460 watt alternator.
The reason we feature this specific BMW K100RS is because it goes one
step further. Just 200 turbo kits were produced by RB Racing on behalf
of Luftmeister, and one of those kits is attached to this bike. RB
Racing has a very interesting story – we highly recommend checking out their website
for some laughs. This bike has just 29,000 miles, and features plenty
of extras, like a Corbin seat, Fox rear shock, and Luftmeister 4 into 1
exhaust. It was repainted 5 years ago in a lovely Crimson Splash.
